Sidney Carron – Contemporary Photography & Imprints of Light

Sidney Carron looks like a Swedish woman, yet she was born in Vienne (Isère). From childhood, she was passionate about painting, before studying jewelry at the École du Louvre. After a stint at Place Vendôme, she chose to leave it all to fully dedicate herself to photography, driven by a fierce freedom and "educated by travels and encounters" (biography by Frédéric Beigbeder).

Her work approaches photography from its original matrix: light. Sidney Carron often creates outdoors, by the water, arranging bodies, plant fragments, branches, stones, and natural materials on the photosensitive surface. Then, she allows the sun, wind, sand, and sea to intervene. From this dialogue emerge images of floating silhouettes, skins turned into light, and almost ghostly traces. Halfway between photography and painting, these imprints blend with the wave or the cloud, like fragments of memory left on the shore.

The next exhibition of Sidney Carron at the Sakana Gallery (Donostia / San Sebastián) will extend this exploration: a sensitive, organic photography where the image is constructed with elements and time. A rare opportunity to discover, in the Basque Country, a contemporary work that speaks of presence, material, and light.
