Pale sunglasses, a fringed bag on the shoulder, one leg raised as if climbing aboard. The young man acts out his big departure in front of the studio's painted aeroplane, a four-engined jet spread above a chequerboard floor. The hand-painted lettering still holds on the canvas, B.O.A.C VC 10.

Travel was one of the great subjects at the Volta Photo studio. Airliners passed over Bobo-Dioulasso, and Sanlé Sory's painted backdrop let his sitters board one for the length of a pose. The imagined journey is one of the best-known motifs of African studio photography, and this is the form it took in Burkina Faso. The photograph is titled Je vais décoller 2, and the poster uses a vertical crop of it. Its numbered edition print is shown at the gallery.

The poster reads that image in blue. Risograph printing pushes ink through a stencil, one pass per colour, with no heat. The ink sits on the paper rather than sinking into it, the screen is plain to the eye. The studio cartouche is printed in a second ink, in black.
