Posters published by the gallery, printed in risograph after photographs by the artists we show.

The first four are by Sanlé Sory. They are printed after photographs made at the Volta Photo studio in Bobo-Dioulasso, Burkina Faso, which he opened in 1960 and ran for more than twenty years. People posed there on a Rolleiflex 6 × 6 against painted backdrops, with a trunk of props each sitter used to build the character they wanted to show. Volta Photo belongs to the West African studio photography of the 1960s and 1970s, now held by the Museum of Modern Art, the Art Institute of Chicago and the Victoria and Albert Museum. Each poster carries the studio's mark at its foot, VOLTA PHOTO · S. SORY · BP.139 BOBO DIOULASSO.

Risograph printing is not photographic printing. The machine lays down one colour at a time, pushing ink through a stencil, the halftone screen stays visible and the ink keeps its texture. These posters are printed in two colours, the image in one ink and the studio cartouche in another.

A2 format, 420 × 594 mm, on Munken 150 gsm uncoated matt paper. €40 including tax, shipped rolled in a tube. These are printed posters, not photographic prints. Sanlé Sory's prints, numbered and museum framed, are shown on the artist's page.
