The work
Sidney Carron has replaced the camera with the sun. At the water’s edge she lays bodies, plants and stones on photosensitive surfaces and lets the light draw. From these exposures to the sun come deep-blue cyanotypes: floating silhouettes, skins turned to light, almost ghostly traces.
The artist
Born in Vienne (Isère), Sidney Carron first trained as a jeweller at the École du Louvre and began her career on place Vendôme. She then left the workshop for photography: reportage in Africa, America and Israel, music videos for Christophe (“Dangereuse”). Educated by travel and encounters, she now develops a photogram practice in which the living is printed directly into the material.

From shore to shore
This exhibition links two houses and two cities: Sakana Gallery, in Donostia’s Egia district, and Argia, a contemporary art advisory based in Biarritz. Fifty kilometres, one border, one culture: on both sides of the Bidasoa, the Basque Country looks out on the same ocean and the same light.
